Avantika Malik has opened up about the painful end of her 18-year relationship with actor Imran Khan, revealing that he first suggested they separate, states Indian Express.
Speaking to Soha Ali Khan on her YouTube channel, Avantika said she would never have initiated the split herself, even if staying together had come at a personal cost.
“It was him actually. I would have never done it. Probably to my own detriment, but I would have never done it. It was his decision,” she said.
The couple, who began dating as teenagers, married in 2011 and welcomed their daughter, Imaara, in 2014. After initially living apart for six months, they mutually decided to end their marriage.
Avantika said their relationship did not collapse because of one major incident but because of smaller issues that accumulated over the years. She described the separation as the loss of the future she had imagined.
Despite the painful ending, she said she was proud of the family they built and the effort they put into their relationship.
