A man was killed and at least 20 others injured in a clash between two groups over a land dispute in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria on Friday.
The deceased was identified as Nazim Ullah, 22, son of Abdul Awal of Burishwar village, where the clash took place.
The injured include members of both groups and are undergoing treatment at Nasirnagar Upazila Health Complex.
According to police and locals, Abdul Awal and Fazlul Haque, both from Burishwar village, had been in a dispute over a piece of land for some time.
The dispute escalated after Friday prayers when supporters of the two sides armed themselves with locally made weapons and engaged in a clash.
The hour-long confrontation left Nazim Ullah dead after he was attacked by members of the opposing group.
At least 20 others from both sides were injured.
Md Obaidur Rahman, additional superintendent of police (administration and finance) in Brahmanbaria, said the clash was triggered by the land dispute.
“Police went to the scene after being informed and brought the situation under control,” he said.
Legal action in connection with the incident is underway, the police official added.
