Commonwealth has announced that it will deploy a 14-member observer team to monitor the 13th national parliamentary election and referendum in Bangladesh.
This announcement was made on Wednesday by The Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Botchwey via a statement issued by the organisation.
The delegation will be led by the former President of Ghana Nana Akufo-Addo.
Shirley Botchwey stated, “Elections and a referendum will be held simultaneously in Bangladesh. Our observer team will be deployed there. We reaffirm the fundamental importance of a credible, transparent, and inclusive electoral process in strengthening democratic governance and supporting long-term stability.”
The members of the observer group include Caribbean Women in Leadership President L Nana Oye Hesse-Bayne, Canadian Communications specialist Neil Philip Ford, Pacific Youth Council in Fiji Coordinator Miliana Iga Ramatanivai, and others.
Following the conclusion of their duties during the election period, the observer group will submit a report containing their findings and recommendations to the Commonwealth Secretary-General.
