A school student, Fatema Akter Lili, also known as Nila, 17, was found dead at her home in South Banasree, Dhaka.
The police believe it to be a murder, though the identity of the perpetrators remains unknown. The police were notified of the incident on Saturday afternoon via the national emergency service, 999, and arrived at the scene promptly.
The Officer-in-Charge of Khilgaon Police Station, Mohammad Shafiqul Islam, told TIMES of Bangladesh that Lili lived in the house with her parents, who had gone to their village home. She had another sister who was away at the time of the incident.
He confirmed that efforts are underway to identify and arrest the perpetrator. The victim’s bloodied body was recovered from a tin-shed house in front of a ten-story building.
Sub-Inspector Jobair Hossain of Khilgaon Police Station reported in the evening that the victim’s throat had been cut, and a rope was found tied around her neck.
The body was recovered, and the incident occurred around 2:3pm in the 1/2 house of Block E in South Banasree.
The authorities have yet to identify those involved in the murder.
