In what could be one of the most exciting Bangladesh–India collaborations in recent times, celebrated actors Chanchal Chowdhury and Tasnia Farin may soon share the screen under the direction of National Award–winning filmmaker Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury.
Interestingly, the news did not break through an official announcement; it emerged from a chance encounter in Kolkata. Both Chanchal and Farin were in the city last Friday, attending the special screening of ‘Swarthopar’ hosted by actress Koel Mallick, when they discovered they were there for the same reason: to meet ‘Tony da’, as the director is fondly known, for discussions about his next project.
“It was a total coincidence,” Chanchal told the media with a smile. “I came to talk to Tony da about a film and later realized Farin was also in town for the same meeting. Neither of us had any idea.”
Farin echoed the sentiment, saying, “Yes, it was quite funny! We met at the screening and realized we’d both come to discuss the same film. Talks are ongoing. Let’s see where it goes.”
While both actors remained cautious about confirming their participation, insiders suggest that Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s next film may explore a cross-border narrative, something he has long been interested in.
The director, known for acclaimed works like ‘Pink’ and ‘Antaheen’, recently made his return to Bengali cinema with ‘Dear Maa’, featuring Jaya Ahsan.
With his growing connection to Dhaka’s talent pool, the prospect of seeing Chanchal and Farin together has generated palpable excitement on both sides of the border.
