Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser for the southern region of the National Citizen Party (NCP), on Sunday alleged that the Ministry of Public Administration is operating in a “gundami” (thuggery) manner across all levels.
He came up with the allegation after an NCP delegation met with the Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) to discuss the progress of BCS examinations.
While speaking to the reporters, Hasnat said, “The July mass uprising began with the aim of ending discrimination in the BCS. Yet, there is still a lack of coordination within the PSC.”
Calling for urgent reforms in the Ministry of Public Administration, he added, “Job seekers are not a priority on their agenda. Thuggery prevails throughout the ministry. Those currently in office are out of touch with the times, and as a result, they will face the anger of this generation.”
Hasnat further criticised officials for being preoccupied with dividing positions and postings. He said, “After the uprising, bureaucrats benefited the most, securing their promotions first.”
While acknowledging the PSC’s commitment to BCS reforms, Hasnat added, “But the service rules need to be amended, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Public Administration.”
Hasnat also demanded that political considerations not influence viva examinations, adding that the PSC is attempting reforms and has recommended completing the BCS within a year.
