Lionel Messi will not play in India after 14 years. Argentina’s planned friendly in Kerala has been cancelled, due to delay of approval from FIFA.
The world champions have changed their schedule and will now play only one match in November. This ends the hope of Indian fans who were eager to see Messi play in the country once again.
For months, the Kerala government had spoken about hosting Messi and his team. The Argentina Football Association (AFA) had earlier confirmed India as one of their two destinations for the November international break.
But the latest update from the AFA confirmed that the match in Kerala will not happen. Argentina will now play only one friendly, which will be held in Angola.
“The Argentine national team, led by Lionel Scaloni, will travel to Spain in November for training and then move to Luanda for their only friendly against Angola on Friday, the 14th,” said an AFA statement. “After the match, the team will return to South America to continue training until November 18, when the international break ends.”
