Popular Bangladeshi singer Kanak Chapa has returned home ahead of her birthday after completing several stage shows in Italy, Sweden and London.
Kanak Chapa remains one of the most celebrated voices in Bangladesh’s music scene. She enjoyed particular dominance in film songs during the 1990s, with her voice featured in numerous films of the decade.
The nationally award-winning singer returned to Bangladesh on Thursday after performing abroad for several days.
Her schedule was arranged so that she could celebrate her birthday at home. However, Kanak Chapa said she has no special plans for the occasion this year.
Her family and fans, however, try to make the day special for her every year.
Kanak Chapa said she will turn 57 this year after completing 56 years. She has no hesitation about discussing her age and believes there is no reason to hide it.
Speaking about her birthday, she said, “Alhamdulillah, I have returned home after completing my shows abroad successfully. I feel that people’s respect and love for me are increasing day by day. It is truly difficult to express that feeling in words. I can never repay this debt of love from everyone. I keep being overwhelmed by the love of my listeners.”
She said she has no particular birthday plans this year. Her daughter used to make all the arrangements for her birthday, but she now lives abroad. Her son, meanwhile, is somewhat shy. Her mother-in-law prepares food for the occasion.
“I actually want to spend my birthday quietly. But that never really happens. Some of my fans love surprising me without my knowledge, so perhaps this year will be no different,” she said.
Kanak Chapa added that a birthday is ultimately just a number, although September 11 remains a very special date for her.
“The biggest truth is that a birthday is only a number. My birthday has always been very special to me, and I love 11 September very much. No one wants to leave this beautiful world, and neither do I. Still, I am grateful to Allah for keeping me on this earth. Please pray for me. I also pray for everyone,” she said.
Regarding new music, Kanak Chapa said she does not have any new song scheduled for release at the moment. She noted that every artist has a period when they regularly make music, followed by a change in that phase.
“However, I was an artist, I am an artist and I will remain an artist for life,” she said.
