Amitabh Bachchan has hinted that he may step away from Kaun Banega Crorepati, saying the personal stories shared by some contestants have made it increasingly difficult for him to continue hosting the show, reports News 18.
The veteran actor, who is currently hosting the 18th season of the popular quiz show, made the comments in a recent blog post.
Writing about the emotional experiences of contestants, Bachchan said some arrive with such serious personal stories that it becomes difficult not only to manage his feelings for them but also to continue with his hosting responsibilities.
“… some contestants come with such grave personal stories, that it becomes difficult to conduct not just our feelings for them but also to continue hosting the show ..I shall not indulge more because it would take away some elements from the understanding that a host gives to the Channel .. but it has been a heart – breaking experience .. I wish to retire now .. it is late .. and the night invites .. Love,” he wrote.
Bachchan has hosted Kaun Banega Crorepati since the show began in 2000, except for its third season, when Shah Rukh Khan took over as host.
The latest comments have also revived memories of reports from 2025 that Bachchan was considering leaving the programme ahead of its 17th season.
At the time, Bollywood Hungama reported that Bachchan was planning to quit for personal reasons and that Salman Khan could replace him.
“Salman Khan is the king of the small screen, and the best face to replace Amitabh Bachchan is him, as he also has a strong connect with the audience in the smaller centres. Earlier, Shah Rukh Khan has also hosted KBC, and if everything goes well, Salman will be the newest to take the television sets by storm,” a source was quoted as saying.
However, those reports did not materialise. Sony TV later released a promotional video featuring Bachchan as the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati 17.
His latest remarks have now raised fresh questions about whether the 18th season could mark the end of his long association with the show. However, Bachchan has not formally announced that he is leaving KBC.
