Cristiano Ronaldo moved closer to 1,000 career goals after scoring in Al Nassr’s 2-1 win over Abha in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday.
The Portuguese forward scored his 979th official career goal at Al Awwal Park in Riyadh.
Ronaldo opened the scoring in the 22nd minute. Angelo sent in a corner and Ronaldo rose above his marker to head the ball towards goal. His effort hit the post before crossing the line.
The goal took Ronaldo to 979 goals in 1,334 matches. He now needs 21 more to reach 1,000.
It was also his third Saudi Pro League goal of the 2026-27 season. Ronaldo has now scored 132 goals for Al Nassr since joining the Saudi club.
Lionel Messi remains behind Ronaldo on the career goals list. The Argentine has scored 927 official goals in 1,171 appearances.
Ronaldo’s goal also helped Al Nassr respond after their 2-1 defeat to Al Ittihad in their previous match.
Al Nassr added a second goal after the break. Abha later pulled one back, but Al Nassr held on to secure all three points.
The victory took Al Nassr to 15 points, level with Al Hilal and Al Qadisiya. Abha remained at the bottom of the table with one point.
