Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud has been nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for August after playing a key role in Bangladesh’s historic Test win in Australia.
The ICC announced the three nominees on Thursday. Hasan will compete with Sri Lanka batter Sonal Dinusha and England pacer Ollie Robinson for the award.
Hasan enjoyed a memorable tour of Australia as Bangladesh recorded their first Test victory on Australian soil.
The right arm pacer led the way with the ball in the first Test in Darwin. He took 6 for 55 in Australia’s first innings and followed it with 3 for 56 in the second.
His nine wickets played a major role as Bangladesh completed a nine wicket victory. It was their first Test win in Australia and only their second Test victory against Australia.
Hasan finished the two match series with nine wickets at an average of 19.77.
His performance in Darwin was the highlight of his month. He troubled the Australian batters with his movement and control and helped Bangladesh take charge of the Test.
Hasan now has a chance to add an individual ICC award to a memorable month for Bangladesh cricket.
However, he faces strong competition for the award.
Sri Lanka’s Sonal Dinusha scored 420 runs in two Tests against India. He averaged 140.00 and scored three centuries during the series.
England pacer Ollie Robinson also enjoyed an impressive month against Pakistan. He claimed 16 wickets from two Tests at an average of 7.18.
Robinson took 8 for 80 in the first Test before returning figures of 8 for 35 in the second. His performances helped England take a 2-0 lead in the series.
Hasan, Dinusha and Robinson are now in contention for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for August.
