Bangladesh’s Rakibul Islam finished first in the UCI Level 2 cycling coaching course held in Thailand. He got the highest marks in all modules among participants from 11 Asian countries.
The course took place from March 14 to 18 in Chiang Mai. It was run under the UCI World Cycling Centre. The course is recognised by the Union Cycliste Internationale. A total of 12 participants completed the programme.
Cycling is now a popular passion among many young people in Bangladesh. But it is still not a strong profession. There are limits in the federation and other problems.
Rakibul studied Pharmacy at Jahangirnagar University. He later left his job at a top hospital. He chose to follow cycling. He is now a national champion.
He showed strong skills in coaching, sports science and athlete development in the course. Before this, he got a full scholarship from the UCI. He completed six months of hard training. He passed all basic courses and final tests.
After getting the certificate, Rakibul said, “I am proud to represent Bangladesh at this level. This is not only my personal achievement, but also a reflection of the growing potential of cycling in our country.”
He also said he wants to go to Switzerland in the future. He hopes to complete the UCI Level 3 certification there.
