Jamaat-e-Islami Assistant Secretary General Ahsanul Mahboob Zubair has alleged that the arrest of Thakurgaon district’s Jamaat ameer, along with a large amount of money, was a “fabricated plot” staged by law enforcement agencies.
Speaking at an emergency press conference at Jamaat’s central office on Wednesday, Zubair stated that Thakurgaon Jamaat Ameer Belal Uddin, a businessman by profession, had been wrongfully targeted.
“Such an incident in a highly secured area like the airport is clearly staged,” he said.
Zubair, who also heads the party’s central publicity and media department, claimed the arrest was part of a broader effort to tarnish the reputation of Jamaat-e-Islami.
“A group of terrorists is deliberately creating disturbances to prevent people from voting peacefully,” he alleged. “Our ameer’s election booth was vandalised yesterday, and similar attacks have been occurring across the country.”
The Jamaat leader also accused law enforcement agencies of removing party agents from polling stations and physically assaulting them.
“We believe a section of the administration is showing bias toward one political party,” Zubair claimed.
He further described the actions of law enforcement as “deliberate” and accused certain individuals of orchestrating the entire incident. “We have raised this issue on every platform,” Zubair added.
Earlier, Belal Uddin, the ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami’s Thakurgaon district unit, was detained at Saidpur Airport on Wednesday morning while carrying Tk 74 lakh.
