Bengal Film Society is working to bring Bangladeshi audiences closer to Argentine culture and cinema through a new cultural exchange initiative.
As part of the plan, the society recently held a courtesy meeting with officials at the Argentine Embassy in Bangladesh to discuss the proposed Argentina Film Days.
Bengal Film Society general secretary Jibon Shahadat discussed various aspects of the planned event with Patricio Uruena Palacio, deputy head of mission at the Argentine Embassy, and administrative attaché Mariana Stefanuchi.
During the meeting, the participants highlighted cinema as an important medium for building cultural ties between the two countries.
They also discussed introducing Argentine films, culture and heritage to Bangladeshi audiences while strengthening cultural connections between Bangladesh and Argentina.
Jibon Shahadat said the society wants to expand Bangladesh’s cultural relations with countries around the world through cultural exchange while also highlighting the country’s tourism potential.
“Through cultural exchange, we want to contribute to Bangladesh’s tourism potential in relation to different countries.
Cinema is not only a form of entertainment. It is a powerful medium for presenting a country’s culture, history and way of life to people in another country,” he said.
Jibon added that the society is also in contact with several other embassies in Bangladesh as part of its plan to continue similar initiatives with different countries.
The proposed Argentina Film Days will give Bangladeshi audiences an opportunity to watch selected Argentine films.
The programme is also expected to create opportunities for filmmakers and cultural workers from both countries to connect.
Bengal Film Society hopes to organise more such programmes in the future to promote international cultural exchange.
The initiative is also being viewed as an opportunity to strengthen Bangladesh’s international cultural connections and showcase its culture and tourism potential to a wider global audience.
