Major General Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud, the Director General (DG) of Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), committed to continuing the force’s institutional transformation through reform to fulfil public aspirations.
Speaking at a discussion at Ansar-VDP headquarters in Dhaka on Wednesday marking July Uprising Day-2026, Mahmud said unethical practices, unprofessionalism and a culture of unaccountability create a gap between public expectations and reality.
“Every revenue-earning officer and employee’s primary duty is to serve the country and people through accountability, honesty, transparency and responsibility in discharging state duties,” he said.
The DG said July Uprising had brought transformative changes to the force’s administrative, training and operational activities.
The force has been brought under digital transformation based on equality, fairness and entitlement, he said, with members playing a role in building a modern, people-friendly and service-oriented force through mutual cooperation, accountability and professional skills.
Mahmud said despite efforts by negative groups to create obstacles, the force was gaining public trust and standing as a symbol of pride.
He stressed eliminating discrimination, establishing equal rights, fair resource management and achieving self-reliance to tackle future global challenges.
The DG said learning from the past and practising ethics, accountability and good governance were prerequisites for building a sustainable and prosperous state.
Following the 2024 uprising, Ansar-VDP members played an important role in maintaining law and order at important installations, government offices and grassroots levels with dedication, professionalism and patriotism, Mahmud said, expressing resolve to continue that trend.
Eight documentaries on the uprising’s background, reform needs and the new Bangladesh’s transformation journey were screened at the event.
The DG urged all to internalise the documentaries’ lessons, values and messages and perform duties with greater dedication and professionalism.

Other programmes across the country included placing wreaths at martyrs’ memorials, essay, recitation and painting competitions at Ansar-VDP Academy’s Shaheed Abdul Jabbar School and College in Gazipur, providing improved meals to patients at Ansar-VDP Hospital and special prayers after Zuhr prayers for the martyrs’ salvation and the force’s progress.
