Bangladesh got a useful workout in the Dubai heat as Soumya Sarkar’s 57 and Iqbal Hossain Emon’s four-wicket haul stood out in a drawn two-day game against the United Arab Emirates ahead of their one-off Test against Afghanistan.
Bangladesh will face Afghanistan in the Test in Abu Dhabi from October 9, with the UAE game offering the squad valuable preparation in similar conditions.
After opting to bat at the Dubai Cricket Academy, Bangladesh were bowled out for 234 in 78.1 overs. Soumya top-scored with 57 off 92 balls, hitting six fours, while Sadman Islam made 46, Naeem Hasan 36 and Mominul Haque 33.
Bangladesh then bowled the UAE out for 222 in 53.5 overs to take a 12-run first-innings lead. Iqbal Hossain Emon was the standout bowler, taking four for 30 in six overs, while Taijul Islam claimed three for 58. Ebadot Hossain and Khaled Ahmed took one wicket each.
Wasim top-scored for the UAE with 69, while Jaber Hasan made 38.
Bangladesh extended their lead to 126 after reaching 114 for three in 26.5 overs in their second innings. Mushfiqur Rahim made 44 and Sadman added 32, while Jaker Ali remained unbeaten on 11 when the match ended in a draw.
The UAE’s Farazuddin took one wicket in each innings.
