Sony’s adventure comedy ‘Anaconda’ has reached a notable commercial milestone, passing the $100 million mark at the global box office.
The film, led by Jack Black and Paul Rudd, has earned $101.6 million worldwide so far, with near-even returns from North America and international markets. Domestic ticket sales stand at $50.4 million, while overseas audiences have contributed $51.2 million. Released on Christmas Day, the film continues to hold steady in its third weekend of release.
On Friday alone, Anaconda collected $1.2 million from more than 3,000 cinemas and is projected to add around $4.6 million over the weekend. That would push its North American total to approximately $53.7 million, underscoring the film’s sustained appeal during the holiday-to-New Year corridor.
Rather than a direct remake of the 1997 cult snake thriller, the new Anaconda takes a comedic and self-aware approach. Black and Rudd star as lifelong friends who attempt to remake their favourite movie while navigating midlife crises. Their filmmaking adventure in the Amazon takes a dangerous turn when they encounter a real giant anaconda, blurring the line between fiction and survival.
Directed by Tom Gormican, known for ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’, the film was written by Gormican and Kevin Etten. The ensemble cast includes Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior and Selton Mello. Producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form backed the project through Fully Formed Entertainment, alongside the writing and directing team.
