Mehidy Hasan Miraz’s Guyana Amazon Warriors suffered a nine-wicket defeat against Antigua and Barbuda Falcons in the first qualifier of CPL 2026, but they still have another route to the final.
Guyana collapsed to 76 after losing eight wickets for 9 runs in just 3.1 overs following the powerplay.
Sufyan Moqim and Shadab Khan led the Falcons’ attack. Moqim claimed 4 for 13, while Shadab returned 4 for 16.
Shadab completed a hat-trick in the ninth over. He removed Shimron Hetmyer before trapping Miraz lbw with a googly.
Quentin Sampson then fell first ball, bowled while trying to defend. Both Miraz and Sampson finished with ducks.
Shadab later bowled Guyana captain Imran Tahir for 1. Moqim also dismissed Shai Hope for 16 and Glenn Phillips for 16.
Romario Shepherd’s unbeaten 14 and Shamar Joseph’s 7 added 27 for the final wicket. Shamar Springer then dismissed Joseph in the 15th over to end the innings.
The Falcons needed only 5.2 overs to reach 77 for 1.
Rahkeem Cornwall smashed 49 from 16 balls and drove the chase from the start. He reached 49 from his first 15 deliveries before Tahir dismissed him in the fifth over.
Evin Lewis finished unbeaten on 23, while Amir Jangoo joined him to complete the nine-wicket victory.
The result sends Antigua and Barbuda Falcons straight into the CPL final on September 20.
Guyana, however, remain in the competition. They will face Jamaica Kingsmen in the second qualifier on September 18 for another chance to reach the final.
Jamaica earned that place after beating Barbados Tridents by nine wickets in the eliminator.
The winner of Guyana’s clash with Jamaica will meet the Falcons in the title match.
