Students of Comilla University (CoU) blockaded Dhaka-Chattogram highway on Sunday demanding the immediate arrest of all criminals involved in the murder of Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, 13.
Apratim was the son of CoU Associate Professor Nahida Begum.
Around 11:30am, students were seen chanting slogans to and swift justice for the killing.
The law enforcement personnel were deployed to normalise vehicle traffic on the highway.
Earlier around 10am, Apratim’s first funeral prayer (janaza) was solemnised at CoU central field, followed by a second janaza in Gandhamoti at 11am before his burial was completed.
Apratim was a seventh-grade student at Comilla Border Guard Public School.
According to family sources, he had left his residence in Kotbari Gandhamoti area around 2:30pm on Friday carrying his mother’s iPhone to take photographs with friends but went missing shortly afterwards.
Having failed to trace him after searching across various locations, his father, KM Firoz Shahriar, lodged a general diary (GD) with Sadar Dakshin Police Station on the same day.
Nearly 21 hours later, on Saturday noon, his body was recovered from a forest in the Sananda area near Lalmai Hills, adjacent to CoU.
The body was sent to Comilla Sadar Hospital, where an autopsy was performed.
Police confirmed that severe injury marks were present on his head.
