Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen paid a farewell call on State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
The state minister praised Ambassador Wen’s role in advancing Bangladesh–China relations, noting his visible contributions during his tenure, including support for the successful visit of the prime minister to China.
He highlighted that under the ambassador’s stewardship, ties between the two countries were elevated to a shared community level, with new mechanisms such as the State Minister‑level 2+2 dialogue set to begin.
Ambassador Wen said it had been an honour to serve in Bangladesh for three years and nine months.
He also congratulated the foreign minister on his election as president of the United Nations General Assembly, calling it a proud moment for Bangladesh. He reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting Bangladesh’s development journey and conveyed that the Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China (IDCPC) is eager to visit Bangladesh later this year.
The envoy noted the minister’s personal connection to Bangladesh, recalling that his father had served as China’s ambassador and presented credentials to former president Ziaur Rahman.
State Minister Kobir expressed confidence that Bangladesh–China relations would continue to deepen. He also thanked Ambassador Wen for his service, wished him success in his next assignment, and said Bangladesh was delighted to have had him serve in the country.
