Four people were killed and seven others injured in a collision between a bus and an easybike on the Patuakhali–Kuakata highway late Saturday.
The accident occurred around 11:30pm at Dhalugajir intersection, adjacent to Basakbazar, said Patuakhali Sadar Police Station officer‑in‑charge Moniruzzaman.
The deceased were Kaium Pada, 50, the easybike driver, and passengers Jahangir Howlader, 32, Shilpi Rani, 40, and her daughter Bithi Rani, 22. All four were residents of Boubazar under Amkhola union in Galachipa upazila.
Police said Shilpi Rani had gone to Patuakhali with her daughter to consult a doctor and was returning home when the accident occurred.
According to police and injured bus passengers, a Dhaka‑bound bus left Taltali in Barguna around 9:30pm and collided with the easybike. After the collision, both vehicles fell into a roadside ditch, leaving Shilpi, Bithi and Kaium dead on the spot.
Fire Service and police personnel rescued the victims and took them to hospital, where Jahangir Howlader later died while undergoing treatment.
Two of the seven injured — Lili Begum, 40, and Shamsunnahar, 60, residents of Patuakhali Sadar and Kalapara upazilas — are undergoing treatment at Patuakhali 250‑bed Sadar Hospital.
Patuakhali Fire Service Station Officer Rezowan said two units took part in the rescue operation.
Patuakhali Sadar Police Station officer‑in‑charge Moniruzzaman said the bodies had been sent to Patuakhali Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.
