Suchanda celebrated her birthday yesterday, 19 September, marking another milestone in a six-decade career in Bangladeshi cinema.
She made her film debut 60 years ago with Subhash Dutta’s “Kagojer Nouka” and went on to become one of the leading actresses of the golden era. Her contribution to cinema was later recognised with the National Film Award for Lifetime Achievement.
Her memorable pairing with Nayak Raj Razzak produced several enduring films and songs, including “Jibon Sangeet”, “Moner Moto Bou”, “Je Agune Puri” and “Songsar”.
Suchanda also took on diverse roles in films such as “Chandranath”, “Jibon Theke Neya”, “Anowara”, “Behula” and “Kotha Dilam”.
Beyond acting, she worked as a producer and director, earning particular praise for “Hajar Bochor Dhore”, based on Zahir Raihan’s acclaimed novel.
Six decades after her debut, Suchanda remains an important name in the history of Bangladeshi cinema.
