Mad Theatre is bringing its solo production ‘Anne Frank’ back to the Dhaka stage after a two-year gap, with Arya Meghdoot returning as the young diarist on 25 and 26 September.
The production will be staged at 7:15pm on both days at the Dr Nilima Ibrahim Auditorium of Bangladesh Mohila Samity.
Based on The Diary of Anne Frank, the play marked Mad Theatre’s third production when it premiered in 2021. Asadul Islam adapted Anne’s diary for the stage, while Anisul Haque Barun directed the production.
The story centres on Anne and her family as they hide with others in the Secret Annex in Amsterdam during the Second World War. Through her diary, Anne recorded the realities of life in hiding, along with her fears, dreams and hopes for the future.
The group remained hidden until their arrest in August 1944. Anne and the others were then deported to concentration camps. Anne was eventually taken to Bergen-Belsen, where she died of typhus in February 1945.
