Raihan Rafi’s much-anticipated film Andhar has already generated considerable buzz with its posters and teaser. But as its announced October release draws closer, a new question is taking centre stage: when will the film actually arrive in cinemas?
The star-studded film features Siam Ahmed, Chanchal Chowdhury and Nazifa Tushi in leading roles. Mustafa Monwar, Afsana Mimi, Faruk Ahmed Rehan and Gazi Rakayet are also part of the cast.
The makers previously announced that Andhar would be released in October, with the film expected to target the Durga Puja holiday. However, the recent lack of promotional activity has fuelled speculation that the release could be pushed to a major festival next year, possibly Eid.
Rafi, however, has not confirmed any change to the release schedule. When contacted about the rumours, the director referred questions about the release date to the producers.
Shakib Chowdhury, one of the film’s screenwriters and producers, said the October release remains the only official announcement for now.
“We are not officially saying anything about the release at this moment. We had announced October, and that remains the official announcement. If the date changes, we will inform everyone at the appropriate time,” he said.
So, could Andhar still make it to cinemas in October?
Chowdhury declined to specify a date, saying the team is more concerned about ensuring that the film does not reach audiences before it is fully ready.
“Andhar is a completely new kind of film for Bangladesh. It will come at the right time. Sometimes, after watching a film, audiences say it was made in a hurry and could have benefited from more time. We are making every effort to ensure that nobody says that about Andhar,” he said.
The production is still deep into post-production. Chowdhury recently returned from Mumbai after spending 13 days there working on the film and said he would have to travel there again.
“There is a lot of VFX work. So, the work is continuing in full swing. Let’s see,” he said.
With the October release still officially on the table but the exact date undecided, Andhar now leaves audiences waiting for one answer: will it arrive during this year’s festival season, or will they have to wait until Eid next year?
