A Paris court has awarded Kim Kardashian €1 in damages over the 2016 armed robbery in which jewellery worth more than $6 million was stolen from her during Paris Fashion Week.
The symbolic amount was the compensation requested by Kardashian, according to a lawyer involved in the case who spoke to the Associated Press, as reported by The Guardian.
The court convicted eight people last year over their involvement in the robbery. Kardashian and her stylist Simone Harouche, who was present during the incident, welcomed the decision in a joint statement.
“The experience was deeply traumatic, and its impact has stayed with us. Today’s decision is not about the compensation, but about accountability and recognition,” they said.
“We are thankful to the court and everyone who supported us throughout this process, and we hope to now move forward and continue to heal.”
The court also awarded €109,516 to a former receptionist at the Hôtel de Pourtalès, where Kardashian was staying when the robbery occurred. He had sought €550,000 in damages and interest, saying the incident left him traumatised. His lawyer, Mohand Ouidja, described the ruling as a victory.
The hotel received €50,000, while Harouche was also awarded €1, matching the amount she had requested.
Kardashian was targeted on 2 October 2016 when two robbers posing as police officers entered her hotel suite. They restrained her with zip ties and tape before stealing jewellery worth more than $6 million.
Among the stolen items was a diamond ring Kardashian had worn to a Givenchy show earlier that evening.
The defendants became known in France as “les papys braqueurs”, or the “grandpa robbers”, because six of them were in their 60s and 70s when they went on trial.
They were convicted of charges including armed robbery, kidnapping and gang association. None returned to prison because they had already spent time in pre-trial detention, and none appealed the verdict.
Following the convictions, Kardashian said she remained grateful to French authorities for pursuing the case.
