Former minister of Liberation War Affairs under the Awami League government, Captain (Retd) AB Tajul Islam, has been shown arrested in a case concerning the murder of a person named Md Salahuddin Suman (related to the July uprising) in an area under Khilgaon Police Station.
On Monday, the court of Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiyak in Dhaka approved the application to show him arrested.
Additional Public Prosecutor Shamsuddoha Suman, who represented the state, has confirmed the information to the media.
Last Tuesday (September 2), investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Muhammad Asadur Rahman of Khilgaon Police Station, applied to show Tajul Islam arrested, with the court setting Monday for a hearing on the matter.
According to the case allegations, on July 19 last year, Salahuddin Suman participated in the anti-discrimination movement in an area under Khilgaon Police Station in the capital.
At that time, he was shot by bullets fired by the accused and died on the spot. In connection with the incident, the victim’s wife filed the murder case, mentioning the name of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Earlier, on the night of August 20, 2024, Tajul Islam was arrested from the Banasree area of the capital by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He has been in jail since then.
