Four more suspected measles patients have died in Bangladesh in 24 hours up to Sunday, taking the total death toll from the disease to 1,057 since 15 March this year.
According to a press release issued on Sunday by the Health Emergency Operation Centre and Control Room under the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), two of the latest deaths were reported in Dhaka division, while Chattogram and Mymensingh divisions recorded one death each.
During the same 24-hour period, a total of 1,148 new suspected measles cases were identified across the country, with infection confirmed in 88 of them.
In addition, 1,033 new measles patients were admitted to various hospitals nationwide, while 830 were discharged following treatment.
Division-wise figures showed that Dhaka division recorded the highest number of suspected cases at 449, of which 64 were confirmed and 346 patients were admitted to hospitals. Chattogram division identified 269 suspected cases, including 15 confirmed infections.
Among the other divisions, Sylhet reported 145 suspected cases, Barishal 114, Khulna 70, Mymensingh 54, Rajshahi 30, and Rangpur 17. Of the suspected cases identified in Rangpur, nine were confirmed infections.
On the vaccination front, under the National Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign 2026, a total of 19,829,524 individuals have been vaccinated against a national target of 18,015,064, achieving 110.1 per cent coverage.
In city corporation areas, 2,080,349 individuals have received the vaccine against a target of 1,905,950, representing an achievement rate of 109.2 per cent.
