A Dhaka court has fixed 10 December for submission of the investigation report against former prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 16 others in a case filed over alleged irregularities and abuse of power in the toll collection contract of the Meghna–Gomti Bridge.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir set the date on Sunday after accepting an application from the Anti‑Corruption Commission (ACC), which had failed to submit the report within the scheduled time.
Other accused include former ministers Amir Hossain Amu, Tofail Ahmed, Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Obaidul Quader, Anisul Huq, former state minister MA Mannan, former secretary MAN Siddiq, additional secretary Md Faruq Jalil, deputy secretary Mohammad Shafiqul Karim, engineer Md Firoz Iqbal, Ibne Alam Hasan, Md Aftab Hossain Khan, Md Abdus Salam, and CNS Limited managing director Munir Uz Zaman Chowdhury, directors Selina Chowdhury and Ikram Iqbal.
According to the case statement, CNS Limited was given responsibility for toll collection of the Meghna–Gomti Bridge through a direct procurement method in 2016. The valid tender process was cancelled, and the contract was signed without competitive discussion with other firms.
Under the contract, CNS was allowed a 17.75 per cent service charge on total tolls collected.
The case alleged that the company received bills amounting to about Tk489 crore in this way.
