Detectives detained 15 leaders and activists of the Awami League, including its Sujanagar upazila president Abdul Wahab, while they were allegedly preparing to carry out acts of sabotage and organise a procession in Pabna town.

They were detained around 6:30am on Wednesday from in front of Indira Mor on Abdul Hamid Road, said Pabna district Detective Branch (DB) in-charge Abdus Salam.

However, the identities of the remaining detainees could not be immediately confirmed.

DB chief Salam said the group had allegedly planned sabotage activities in the town. As part of that plan, they had arrived in a microbus and were preparing to bring out a procession when DB police, acting on a tip-off, conducted a raid and detained them.

He said the detainees were later sent to Pabna Sadar Police Station for legal action.

This marks the third time Wahab has been detained since 5 August.

Previously, on 2 February 2025, police detained him from the Mathurapur area. However, local Awami League leaders and activists allegedly snatched him from a police van shortly after his detention, leaving eight police personnel injured.

Later, on 5 February, police arrested him again.

After securing bail, Wahab and his supporters allegedly attempted to revive Awami League activities in Sujanagar.

Subsequently, during an overnight operation in Mathurapur on 23 April, police detained 21 leaders and activists of the Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League, including Abdul Wahab. They were released on bail several weeks later.
