Jewellery worth around Rs 5 lakh has allegedly been stolen from the Mumbai home of actress Ameesha Patel’s parents, with police arresting a domestic worker in connection with the case.
According to NDTV, Mumbai Police have arrested 40-year-old Seema Ghate, a domestic worker, over the alleged theft. Ghate, a resident of Palghar, had worked at the residence of Ameesha’s mother, Asha Patel, for around one-and-a-half years.
The alleged theft took place at the Patels’ residence in Mumbai’s Churchgate area. According to police, a bangle went missing from the house in January 2026.
Asha Patel reportedly suspected Ghate’s involvement and had been asking her for around five to six months to admit to the theft and return the jewellery. The bangle was allegedly not returned, prompting Asha Patel to approach the Marine Drive police and file a complaint.
Police initially registered a case against an unidentified woman under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). A crime detection team then investigated the case and traced Ghate to Virar, where police detained her.
Ghate was later arrested and produced before a court. She has been remanded to police custody until 15 September.
The investigation is continuing, with police attempting to recover the missing jewellery. The bangle has not yet been recovered. Authorities are also checking whether Ghate has any previous criminal record.
Ameesha Patel made her Bollywood debut in 2000 with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, which became a major commercial success. She later appeared in successful films including Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, Humraaz, Honeymoon Travels Pvt. Ltd., Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Race 2.
The actress returned to the spotlight in 2023 by reprising her role in Gadar 2. The film became her highest-grossing release.
Ameesha was last seen in Tauba Tera Jalwa, directed by Akashaditya Lama, which was released in 2024.
