Two pedestrians were killed after being hit by a truck in Digpait of Jamalpur Sadar upazila on Monday morning, police said.
The accident occurred at around 7:30am in front of Munshi Bari in the Digpait Kachabazar area on the Jamalpur-Tangail highway.
One of the victims, Md Noni Driver, 60, died at the scene. The other, Md Hafiz, 55, succumbed to his injuries at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital after being transferred there for advanced treatment.
Noni was a resident of the Driver Bari area in Digpait, while Hafiz hailed from Matiajani village in Sarishabari upazila.
According to locals, the two men were standing beside the highway to go shopping when a truck heading towards Jamalpur ran them over. Hafiz was first taken to Jamalpur General Hospital in critical condition before being shifted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he later died.
Officer-in-Charge of Jamalpur Police Station Nazmus Sakib said the truck had been seized and efforts were under way to bring its driver to justice.
