Bangladeshi folk singer Anusheh Anadil has revealed that she is living with a rare hearing condition and is gradually losing her hearing.
In a heartfelt post on social media, the acclaimed artiste shared details of her health struggles, explaining why she has stepped away from performing in recent years.
Anadil said she has been diagnosed with tinnitus, a condition that causes persistent ringing or other noises in the ears.
According to her, the constant internal noise has progressively affected her hearing, while loud sounds have become increasingly unbearable.
“I just wanted to tell the truth about why I don’t sing anymore. I am gradually losing my ability to hear. I have tinnitus, and the noise inside my ears is so loud that I can no longer tolerate loud sounds. It literally causes pain in my ears,” she wrote.
The singer also revealed that doctors had advised her to use hearing aids.
However, she believes the devices worsened both her hearing and her tinnitus.
“The doctors asked me to wear hearing aids, but relying on them seemed to make me hear even less and made my tinnitus worse. So I stopped using them,” she said.
Anadil added that living in a quiet environment has become essential for her well-being, which is why she now prefers staying in the countryside.
She currently lives at Sorolbari, the eco-resort she founded.
Although it operates as a retreat, it is also known as a sanctuary for Baul musicians and practitioners of folk traditions.
“That’s why I prefer living in the village. It’s peaceful there, and it’s much easier on my ears,” she wrote.
Anusheh Anadil is one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated folk singers and has played a significant role in introducing Baul, Lalon and mystic folk music to younger generations.
News of her condition has prompted an outpouring of concern and well wishes from fans, many of whom have expressed hope for her recovery and continued well-being.
