Police recovered a private car and arrested its driver on Monday morning after he allegedly fled with the vehicle from the capital’s Vatara area due to unpaid overtime wages.
The recovery was made possible through the prompt intervention of the National Emergency Service 999.
On Monday morning, a resident of Natun Bazar under Vatara Police Station contacted 999 to report that his personal driver had disappeared with his vehicle without any prior notice. The caller informed the emergency service that the driver was not answering his phone and requested immediate assistance in locating the car.
The call was received by 999 call taker Constable Md Mridul Ahmed, who immediately alerted the DMP Traffic Control Room for necessary action. Throughout the operation, 999 Police Dispatcher ASI Md Harunur Rashid maintained constant coordination between the caller and the responding units.
Following the alert from Traffic Control, Sergeant Towfique Elahi Sujon of Bangshal police station intercepted the vehicle, registration number Dhaka Metro-Ga-22-8878, in front of Shamim Dental at 78/3 Nazimuddin Road, Chankharpul crossing.
A team from Bangshal police station subsequently arrived at the spot, took the private car into custody, and later handed it over to the rightful owner.
The driver, identified as Md Jalil Mridha (59) was arrested on charges of theft. Jalil, who hails from Bhaiyar Haula in Galachipa, Patuakhali, was currently residing at Sayeed Nagar in Vatara, Dhaka.
