A man allegedly killed his wife and son following a family dispute at the Rohingya refugee camp in Ukhiya, Cox’s Bazar, early Thursday.
The attack occurred around 1:30am in Block B‑6 of Camp‑6.
The deceased were identified as Shahid Nur, 33, wife of camp resident Atasmul Haque, and their five‑year‑old son Md Shamim Haque. Their other son, Md Absar, 9, was critically injured and taken to hospital.
Police said Atasmul, 37, fled after the killings.
Preliminary reports suggest Atasmul, a Rohingya, attacked his wife and two children with a sharp weapon during a quarrel. His wife and one son died instantly, while the other son survived with severe injuries.
Superintendent of Police Shailen Chakma of the 8th Armed Police Battalion (APBn) confirmed the incident. He said, “Around 1:30am we received reports from Camp‑6. Police recovered two bodies and sent the injured child to hospital. We are trying to arrest Atasmul. Investigation is ongoing to determine the cause and details of the killings.”
Ukhiya Police Station Officer‑in‑Charge Mohammad Mujibur Rahman said, “The bodies have been sent to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy. Legal proceedings are being initiated.”
