Infinix expands bypass charging as battery health gains focus

Smartphone makers are increasingly focusing on technologies designed to improve battery longevity and reduce overheating as consumers use their devices more intensively for gaming, streaming and multitasking. One such technology, bypass charging, is being rolled out across a growing number of devices, including several models from Infinix, the company said in a press release.

The feature is now available in the Infinix GT 30 Pro, Note 60 Series and the recently launched Hot 70. The company said the technology is intended to support long-term battery health while maintaining performance during power-intensive tasks.

In a conventional charging system, electricity from a charger passes through the battery before reaching the phone’s operating components. During demanding activities, the battery effectively charges and discharges at the same time, generating heat that can contribute to battery degradation and reduced capacity over time.

Bypass charging alters that process by directing power from the charger straight to the device’s mainboard and processing components when the feature is activated. This reduces the battery’s involvement during intensive use and helps limit heat generation associated with continuous charging cycles.

Infinix said the technology has been incorporated into different product categories to address varying user requirements.

The GT 30 Pro, which is positioned as a performance-focused smartphone, uses bypass charging to support extended gaming sessions where thermal management is important. The Note 60 Series incorporates the feature to provide more stable performance during productivity-oriented usage, while the Hot 70 introduces the technology to a broader consumer segment.

The company said the benefits are particularly noticeable during gaming, where high frame rates and sustained graphics processing can raise internal temperatures. By reducing the amount of power flowing through the battery, bypass charging helps limit heat build-up and lowers the likelihood of thermal throttling, allowing more consistent device performance.

The technology is also designed to support everyday activities such as video calls, navigation and media consumption while charging. By reducing direct charging cycles during these tasks, bypass charging can help slow battery ageing and improve long-term device reliability, according to the company.

Infinix said its decision to expand the technology across multiple smartphone categories reflects a broader shift in the industry’s approach to product development.

Rather than focusing solely on processing speed or camera improvements, manufacturers are increasingly placing greater emphasis on battery durability, user safety and thermal efficiency as key differentiators.

As smartphones continue to serve as all-day connected devices, technologies such as bypass charging are expected to move beyond premium models and become more widely available across different market segments, the company said.
