NCC Bank organises free eye care campaign in Feni

National Credit and Commerce Bank PLC (NCC Bank) recently organised a free eye care campaign at Moulvi Shamsul Karim College in Chhagalnaiya, Feni, as part of its 33rd anniversary celebrations.

The initiative was conducted by the NCC Bank Foundation in collaboration with the Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital, read a press release.

Md Nurun Newaz Selim, Chairman of the Bank, officially inaugurated the service camp.

The event was attended by M Shamsul Arefin, Managing Director; Sharif Mohammad Mahsin, SVP and Head of SME & Agricultural Credit Division; Khondoker Saiful Alam, SVP and Head of Foundation; and Abdul Jalil, Acting Principal of the college, along with local dignitaries.

During the day-long campaign, 1,125 underprivileged patients received free medical consultations, medicines, and spectacles. Patients selected for cataract surgery will be provided with free transportation to Dhaka, accommodation, meals, surgery using Phaco machines, and post-operative medicines and sunglasses.

Addressing the patients via a digital platform, Munshi Rafiqul Alam Majnu, Member of Parliament for Feni-1, welcomed the noble initiative. He stated that the helpless and distressed people of Feni district would benefit from this programme and be protected from the threat of blindness.

Chairman Md Nurun Newaz Selim emphasised that NCC Bank does not operate solely for profit.

He noted that as part of its corporate social responsibility, the bank supports the improvement of living standards for backward communities by meeting basic needs such as education and healthcare.

He expressed his gratitude to the authorities of the Bangladesh Eye Trust Hospital and affirmed that the bank’s humanitarian activities would continue in the future.

Managing Director M Shamsul Arefin highlighted that the bank’s CSR wing is involved in various activities for the underprivileged.

These include the distribution of winter clothes, providing food, agricultural inputs, and machinery to ensure food security, and awarding scholarships to poor and meritorious students.

He also mentioned nationwide tree plantation drives and initiatives aimed at increasing climate change adaptation and sustainable livelihoods for people in Char areas.

He added that this specific campaign in Chhagalnaiya was organised to provide essential eye care services to the poor and distressed.
