A man was allegedly hacked to death by his uncle over a land-related dispute in Katiadi upazila of Kishoreganj on Friday afternoon.
The incident occurred in the Purbochar Paratola area of Lohajuri Union.
The deceased was identified as Anwar Hossain, 35, son of Safi Uddin of the same area.
The accused, Morom Ali, son of Abdul Hakim, is reportedly Anwar’s paternal uncle.
According to police and local sources, the two families had long been involved in a dispute over land ownership.
Several village arbitration attempts were made to resolve the matter, but the conflict remained unsettled.
On Friday afternoon, tensions flared again following a minor altercation between the two sides.
Later in the evening, local residents found Anwar Hossain lying in a bloodied condition on the staircase of Chatan Purbochar Paratola High School.
Locals alleged that Morom Ali prevented people from approaching the victim and threatened those who attempted to help, delaying medical assistance.
Police later arrived at the scene and rescued Anwar, who was pronounced dead in the evening.
Following the incident, the accused and his associates reportedly went into hiding.
The victim’s mother, Shirina Akter, alleged that Morom Ali and his associates entered their house while no one else was present and attacked Anwar with sharp weapons, leaving him critically injured.
She claimed that he was later confined and abandoned on the school veranda, where he remained without treatment for a long period.
Anwar’s sister, Salma Akter, alleged that the killing was premeditated and demanded justice for her brother’s murder.
Shyamal Mia, investigation Officer of Katiadi Model Police Station, said police recovered the body from the scene after receiving information about the incident. He confirmed that multiple injury marks were found on the body.
“The body will be sent to the Kishoreganj District Sadar Hospital morgue for post-mortem. The accused persons are currently absconding, and legal proceedings are underway,” the police officer said.
