Robi Axiata PLC Managing Director and CEO Ziad Shatara has been elected President of the Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh (AMTOB).
The election took place during the association’s virtual Annual General Meeting on Tuesday, the organisation said in a press release.
Shatara will serve a two-year term beginning April 1, succeeding Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman.
The newly formed board appointed Banglalink CEO Johan Buse as Senior Vice President, Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman as Vice President and Teletalk Managing Director Nurul Mabud Chowdhury as Director.
Association Director and Secretary General Lieutenant Colonel Mohammad Zulfikar Retd moderated the session.
Senior officials from member and associate organisations attended the meeting, including Ericsson Bangladesh Country Manager Abdus Salam, Huawei Technologies Bangladesh CEO Jason Wu, Banglalink Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer Taimur Rahman, Grameenphone Chief Corporate Affairs Officer Tanveer Mohammad, Robi Axiata Chief Corporate and Regulatory Officer Shahed Alam and Teletalk Deputy General Manager Luthfullahil Mozid.
“Bangladesh’s mobile telecommunications sector plays a central role in the country’s digital economy,” said AMTOB President Ziad Shatara.
“This industry connects people across the country and we are committed to supporting a smart and sustainable digital future by working closely with regulators and industry partners,” he said.
Shatara said the association will focus on understanding evolving digital needs, supporting innovation and expanding connectivity nationwide.
The Association of Mobile Telecom Operators of Bangladesh represents the country’s mobile network operators and promotes development of the telecommunications sector in line with national digital and economic goals.
