Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Md Abdus Salam has directed officials to ensure the highest level of professionalism to implement Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s “Green City–Clean City” vision, setting out four priority programmes to reshape the capital’s urban management.
The directives were issued on Wednesday at Nagar Bhaban during separate exchange meetings with senior DSCC officials and the waste management department, the corporation said in a press release.
The four focus areas are tree plantation and large-scale greening, restoration and dredging of canals, modern waste management and strengthened mosquito control.
Officials decided to prepare a comprehensive action plan within one week for submission to the Prime Minister’s Office to facilitate implementation.
With mosquito infestation rising in recent weeks, several DSCC wards have been designated high-risk zones. The corporation will form a monitoring team comprising senior officials to ensure full effectiveness of mosquito control operations. Local civil society groups will be engaged to boost public awareness.
Authorities warned that if mosquito larvae are detected due to negligence, or if environmental pollution continues despite awareness efforts, strict legal action and mobile court drives will follow.
Addressing officials, Md Abdus Salam said the city corporation is a service-oriented institution and must uphold accountability and commitment to residents. He said good performance would be rewarded, while negligence would attract reprimand and strict measures.
He also announced that all DSCC citizen services would remain fully operational and uninterrupted from Wednesday.
Earlier in the day, Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Hossain visited the corporation’s central mosquito control chemical storage facility in Dhalpur, accompanied by the administrator.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the overall condition and management of the facility and urged authorities to maintain the quality of chemicals used in mosquito control operations.
