Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki cast his vote alongside his wife, actress Nusrat Imroz Tisha, during the 13th National Parliament election.
After returning from the polling station, Farooqui shared a message reflecting on the significance of the day. He wrote, “This election will not only choose a party to run the country. Among many other things, the day will be remembered as one when Bangladeshis officially regain ownership of their country, and that too on Abrar Fahad’s birthday. The incident is a coincidence, but its script has been written in heaven.”
As the nation marked the parliamentary election in a festive atmosphere, members of the entertainment industry also took part in the process. Artists and public figures were seen casting their ballots at polling stations across the country, including several centres in Dhaka.
Abrar Fahad, a second-year student in the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Department at BUET, was beaten to death at Sher-e-Bangla Hall on the night of 6 October 2019 by a group of leaders and activists of the Chhatra League.
Farooqui assumed the role of Cultural Affairs Adviser to the interim government on 10 November 2024. During the government’s 19-month tenure, the filmmaker received both praise and criticism for his performance in office.
