In an official complaint filed with the Election Commission, Islami Andolan Bangladesh on Thursday alleged that there have been several irregularities observed at various polling centres in the country.
The complaint letter lists a series of issues that it wishes to bring to the attention of the election watchdog, and and requests legal action:
The letter alleges that, in the Noakhali-1 constituency (Seat No. 268), the Hand Fan symbol candidate nominated by Islami Andolan Bangladesh, Zahirul Islam, was attacked in the Mohuriganj area, leaving the candidate seriously injured along with three accompanying workers. Since morning, voters of the Hand Fan symbol have been facing obstructions in casting their votes at the Mohuriganj center, and despite repeated contact with the administration, no initiative has been taken.
Additionally, in Ward No 8 of Deori Union under Sonaimuri Upazila, agents and workers of the Hand Fan symbol were attacked by the BNP.
In the Bhola-1 constituency, the letter adds, (Seat No. 115), the candidate’s chief agent and the center’s polling agent were attacked in Digholdi Union. The on-duty Ansar member sided with the attackers and kept the Hand Fan symbol agents besieged, though they were later freed by the army.
Meanwhile, since 10am, voters of the Hand Fan symbol have been obstructed from voting. Furthermore, at Banker’s Hat Balika Secondary School in Ward No 1 of Veduria Union, Jamaat terrorists forcibly compelled female voters of the Hand Fan symbol to vote for the Scale symbol.
In the Patuakhali-1 constituency (Seat No. 111), polling agents of the Hand Fan symbol have been expelled from all centres in Amgachi and Madbakhali Unions under Mirzaganj Upazila.
In the Narsingdi-5 constituency (Seat No. 208), polling agents of the Hand Fan symbol were expelled from the Raipura Government Primary School polling center in Mirzaganj Union, Raipura, following which the BNP cast fake votes in full view of the administration.
At Baherbazar Sarkari Primary School, voters of the Hand Fan symbol were obstructed from voting, and the Presiding Officer is assisting in vote theft by allowing BNP terrorists inside the booth. In Radhanagar Union, BNP terrorists are preventing anyone from the Hand Fan symbol from voting and are casting fake votes in booths, while the administration remains silent despite witnessing these activities.
Complaints regarding these matters were submitted on behalf of Islami Andolan Bangladesh concerning the election.
