BNP has lodged a formal complaint on Wednesday against Jamaat-e-Islami, accusing the party of distributing cash to influence voters in Tahirpur Upazila of Sunamganj-1 constituency ahead of election.

Mehedi Hasan Ujjal, a representative of the election monitoring committee for BNP candidate Kamruzzaman Kamrul, submitted a written complaint to Tahirpur upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) and assistant returning officer.

The complaint alleges that workers of Jamaat-e-Islami candidate, Tofail Ahmed, are spreading cash across various areas of the upazila, which has reportedly created a sense of panic among general voters.

The written complaint specifically names four local Jamaat leaders allegedly involved in these activities, including Kamrul Islam of Jalalpur village in North Baradal union, Farid Mia of Kalagaon village in North Sripur union, Selim Mia of Kamraband village in Badaghat union, and Advocate Mohsin Reza Manik of Durlabhpur village in South Sripur union.

When contacted regarding the allegations, Advocate Mohsin Reza Manik dismissed the claims as ridiculous and suggested that the complaint itself could be interpreted as a threat.

Tahirpur UNO and Assistant Returning Officer Mehedi Hasan Manik confirmed receipt of the complaint and stated that the police have been tasked with investigating the matter to verify the allegations and take necessary legal action.
