Veteran actor Kamal Bayazid is undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a private hospital in Dhaka after suffering a sudden brain haemorrhage.

The news has caused concern across Bangladesh’s theatre, television and film communities. Members of the Actors’ Equity Guild Bangladesh and his colleagues have taken to social media to pray for his recovery.

Several members of the guild and Bayazid’s fellow artistes said he remains under close observation by doctors in the ICU. They expressed concern over his current condition and urged people across the country to pray for his speedy recovery.

Kamal Bayazid has been active in acting for more than four decades, working across stage, television and film. He has earned recognition for his performances in acclaimed films including ‘Ekattorer Jishu’, ‘Guerrilla’ and ‘Chorabali’.

He also became widely known for playing the character Kamal in BBC Janala’s educational programme ‘Mojay Mojay Shekha’.

Since news of his illness emerged, members of the Actors’ Equity Guild and colleagues from the theatre community have been closely monitoring his treatment and condition.
