Md Habib, the Nayeb-e-Ameer of Sutrapur Thana Jamaat, who was arrested by local residents while distributing money in front of a polling station in the Dhaka-6 constituency, has been sentenced to two days’ imprisonment by a mobile court.
The incident occurred on Wednesday in front of the Sutrapur Community Center polling station in the capital.
Sutrapur Thana OC Md Matiur Rahman said, “An individual named Habib has been sentenced. Money was found in his possession.”
According to eyewitnesses and local sources, Md Habib was attempting to buy votes by distributing money to voters. At that time, local residents caught him red-handed.
Locals apprehended him while he was distributing money to voters at a rice shop in Ward No 44 area of Sutrapur. Upon receiving the information, the executive magistrate arrived at the scene and, after verification, found the truth to the allegation.
Later, he was sentenced to two days’ imprisonment for violating the electoral code of conduct.
