A man was shot dead, while another was injured after miscreants opened fire in the Dholpur area of Jatrabari in Dhaka on Sunday night. The deceased has been identified as Imran Hossain, 40, while the injured person is Zakaria, 32.
The incident occurred at around 10:30pm on Sunday at Dholpur Sarder Goli. The two victims were rushed to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where a doctor declared Imran dead at approximately 12am.
Zakaria’s wife, Jhinuk Akter, said her husband runs a rickshaw garage business at Dholpur Sarder Goli. She said that Zakaria and Imran were sitting in front of the garage at night when seven to eight helmet-wearing miscreants riding four motorcycles arrived and shot at them.
Both men got shot and were immediately taken to the DMCH emergency department, where Imran was declared dead. Zakaria is currently undergoing treatment at the emergency department.
Inspector Mohammad Habibur Rahman, the in-charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, stated that Imran was shot in the head, and his body has been kept in the morgue for an autopsy.
He added that Zakaria sustained bullet wounds to his left leg and right hand, and is currently receiving treatment at the emergency department.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Rakib, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station, confirmed that one person was killed and another was injured in the incident. He added that police personnel have been dispatched to both the hospital and the crime scene to gather further details.
