Chinese technology firm Unitree Robotics has unveiled a promotional video for its latest humanoid robot model, highlighting a strategic shift towards practical, real-world applications.
The newly released footage of the H2-X model shows the robot confronting a knife-wielding intruder, lifting a car to free a trapped victim and pulling a pedestrian out of the path of an oncoming vehicle, reports South China Morning Post.
Released on Wednesday, the video highlights the Hangzhou-based company’s broader shift towards developing practical uses for its athletic robots.
Titled “Kung Fu Legend: Guardian”, the H2-X builds on Unitree’s earlier H2 model, a full-sized humanoid robot standing 1.8 metres tall and weighing approximately 70 kilogrammes.
According to product descriptions, the H2 model has 31 degrees of freedom and a maximum leg-joint torque of 360 newton metres. However, Unitree has not confirmed whether the H2-X will retain these technical specifications.
The company initially gained widespread attention through viral online videos of its robots performing somersaults, dance routines and martial arts demonstrations. While these high-profile displays helped Unitree secure substantial capital investment, China’s wider robotics industry is facing growing pressure to deliver commercial returns.
In response to these market expectations, Unitree has recently signalled a shift towards practical capabilities. Last month, the company announced its UnifoLM-X2-1.0 artificial intelligence model, which enables humanoid robots to spar autonomously by executing punches, blocks and dodges.
