At least 10 people were injured in a clash between activists of BNP and National Citizen Party (NCP) in the island upazila of Hatiya, Noakhali, on Friday.
The violence occurred on Friday afternoon, during the inauguration of the ferry “Mahananda” on the Nalchira-Boyarchar Chairman Ghat water route.
Leading up to the launch, a festive atmosphere had prevailed in the Nalchira Ghat and Boyarchar Chairman Ghat areas for several days.
The introduction of the ferry service – the first of its kind on this route – is expected to resolve long-standing transportation grievances for approximately 700,000 residents of Hatiya, facilitating the easier movement of both vehicles and goods.
The ferry service was reportedly initiated through the efforts of Abdul Hannan Masud, the Central Joint Chief Coordinator of the NCP.
Masud is also the candidate for the Noakhali-6 (Hatiya) constituency representing the NCP and the 11-party alliance in the 13th National Parliamentary Election.
