US Ambassador to Bangladesh, Brent T Christensen on Thursday called on National Security Adviser Khalilur Rahman at the latter’s office in Dhaka.

Khalilur Rahman welcomed Ambassador Christensen as the new American envoy to Bangladesh. He recalled Christensen’s contributions to strengthening bilateral relations during his previous stint in Dhaka and through his roles in the US government in Washington DC.

Rahman expressed hope that ties between the two countries would reach new heights during the ambassador’s current tenure.

During the hour-long meeting, the two sides discussed key aspects of Bangladesh–US relations. These included the reciprocal tariff agreement, support for Rohingyas, immigration issues such as visa bonds and the return of undocumented Bangladeshis from the United States, as well as American business and investment in Bangladesh.

They also exchanged views on regional issues of shared concern.

Ambassador Christensen reiterated strong US support for Bangladesh’s democratic transition.

He praised the interim government’s efforts related to the upcoming elections and wide-ranging reforms.

US Embassy Political and Economic Counsellor Eric Geelan was also present at the meeting.
