A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a microbus belonging to the July Smriti Foundation In Dhaka’s Khilkhet area.
The victim was Chandan Das, 50, a fish trader by profession.
The accident occurred around Wednesday noon on 300-feet road. Chandan Das was critically injured and initially taken to Kurmitola General Hospital with the help of locals. As his condition worsened, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead around 1:30pm.
Nazarul Islam, who was with him, said Chandan Das lived behind Kurmitola School in Khilkhet and sold fish at Khilkhet Railgate. His family home is in Verbanagar, Kasba Upazila, Brahmanbaria. His father’s name is Suresh Chanda Das.
Nazarul added that Chandan had visited Kuratoli to meet someone and was returning home on foot when the high-speed minibus hit him while crossing the road.
Afzalur Rahman Sayem, Senior Verification Officer of the July Smriti Foundation, said the minibus was transporting staff to the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) 2026, where the foundation has two pavilions.
The vehicle had dropped staff at the venue and was returning to the office when the incident occurred.
Md Faruk, officer in charge of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp, confirmed the body has been sent to the morgue for post-mortem.
Khilkhet Police are conducting further legal proceedings.
