Nine people have died across the country in the last 24 hours due to measles infection and related symptoms, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said on Tuesday.
Of the deceased, three were confirmed to have died from measles infection, while the remaining six deaths were reported as having occurred with measles-like symptoms.
During the same 24-hour period, 1,276 new suspected measles cases were recorded among children, the DGHS said in a statement on Tuesday.
DGHS data shows that since 15 March, a total of 47 people have died from confirmed measles infections, while 226 deaths have been recorded as suspected measles-related cases.
During the same period, 4,856 confirmed measles cases have been reported nationwide, while suspected cases have risen to 34,662.
Authorities also reported that 23,348 patients have been hospitalised with suspected measles infections since 15 March, while 19,991 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
